why should they be allowed either? I wonder why they are so angry, they have access to all the things they say rural and suburban people lack, so i wonder why they are so angry, rude and as you say condescending? I dont believe anyone should be excused from it, unless somebody really shot your dog and did it everyday for as long as the cities have been founded

A few months back I was walking around Center City and I asked a young man some questions about streets / directions / etc., and he was extremely helpful. Young graduate type. A few other people I interacted with at the childrens museum etc. were very nice too, and answered my questions. It felt just like at any major city. I drove around CC quite a bit, and do not recall any bad incident. All in all, I had a positive feeling. (Of course all this may not be representative, and based on very initial observations.)

The point is alot of the middle class / blue collar worker neighborhoods ( Frankford;Kensington -east of Front St. and north of Lehigh Ave; Elmwood in southwest Philly; Grays Ferry in South Phila etc.; and many parts of lower northeast Phila etc )have seriously declined within the last 10-15 years. The people are probably very unhappy and frustrated to see neighborhood after neighborhood go into nasty decline and they are upset because safe, affordable , areas are becoming more and more scarce.

I know Patco ridership hit an all-time high last year.
I'm pretty sure that had to do with gas prices moreso than people moving into the suburbs.

I am sure it was a factor but Patco ridership has shown a steady increase in recent years.

When I lived in Center City, I walked about 8 blocks to catch the subway to work. What a difference in the way people on the street looked on Monday morning as compared to Friday evening. I confess I felt the same contrast in mood myself, although I have a decent job.

At work or at play may influence the nice/not so nice personna.

Are you saying that people looked happier on Monday morning or on Friday evening?

Ah it's always been there, I just think all the rational people are leaving for greener pastures leaving the nuts behind. The negativity is reaching a critical mass and has spilled over to places like SE Delco which is why I banished the thought of ever moving back there a year ago...

Friday after work, weekend off, relaxed, happy looking forward to some time to do the things they most enjoy.
Makes sense?
