Makes sense to me. I was also thinking it could have been "happy workers energized from the weekend off get worn out by Friday night". So it was either/or to me. Glad that you saw it the way you did.

Default Yep, they're rude and they are even worse in the suburbs!

Obviously my opinion is based on my experiences - feel free to disagree - BUT...I've lived and traveled all over the country and the folks in SE PA are the meanest. No manners, demanding, arrogant. Just pathetic. In stores, in traffic, on mass transit, on the sidewalk: heads down, no smiles, aggressive and impatient. My late father - who had Alzheimer's but looked just fine - would smile and wave to everyone he passed. And people simply looked the other way.

Really, have you ever been to Boston? Southeast PA is like happyfunland compared to that miserable place (I'm only throwing 500,000 people under the bus).

Spend time on Long Island and then come back to Philly. Philly will look like the South after that!

I agree, though. My NE'rn burb is pretty miserable. Parts of The MainiLine are a lot more pleasant in comparison.
Everyone bought blingy stuff they couldn't afford to begin with. just bling showoffs. Now they're even sadder than before ;.(
Misery loves company. the Eagles need to win this year.

The overall attitude (attytood) of native Philadelphians is pretty much "I don't give a f**K". Where that comes from is hard to determine. Civic pride is completely lacking in general, we're not known as Filthydelphia for nothing. It's sad that the city's overall self worth is based upon the performance of the Eagles. So, if the Eagles were a dynasty in terms of Super Bowl wins, residents would stop throwing trash into the streets and actually act civil? I'm not buying it. I'll go out on a limb and theorize that it's because of the relative small percent of population that grew up elsewhere. A large percentage of Philadelphia's provincial/insular residents know of nothing else but life in their 'hoods, half of the extended family who lives within a mile of one another, and 99% of vacation time spent with the same pack of people "down the shore". Being civil is a learned behavior from those around you and most Philadelphians had few if any positive role models to learn from.

First, I love the Philadelphia area, and I lived in many other parts of the country.

BUT, there are way too many people who take pride in being from a "tough" (high crime and in decay) neighborhood in Philly. Then there are the South Philly "tough guys" or a.k.a. hey go "f yer selfers", the Mainliners (too rich, beautiful, and pretentious for you), the I cannot get far enough from those people or a.k.a. people living in Chester County, and lastly the wanabe gangstas (regardless of race). I am from somewhere else and Philadelphians are more obnoxious then people in the Midwest but not as bad as people in New York or New England.
