I'll be visiting Philly for a few days towards the end of June, my second visit in 9 months. Took lots of photos in Philly last year and this time,to vary my photos a bit,I'd like to have a wander round a rundown area and see what there is to photograph. Any suggestions other than Camden?

Philadelphia is a city of murals. Many of them are in the more challenged areas. Taking pictures of the art contrasting against their communities might make for interesting photography. I would imagine that typing "Philadelphia murals" into your preferred search engine would turn up a list of places to look into.

Having done some online searching I think a visit to Eastern State Penitentiary is a must for me.
I'll keep looking for interesting (and as safe as possible!) locations I can walk around.

Does anyone know where in Philadelphia this photo was taken?

Many thanks, lititzman2003. I'll be heading over there to take some photos before the building gets renovated or the advert removed.

Eastern State Pen. is a very cool tour. I really think you will like it. The area that it's in is not bad either.

Old City has many other similar buildings to photograph. It also is not rundown, one of the more upscale areas of the city. For lack of a better comparison, like SoHo in NYC...former industrial/commercial spaces, lofts, interesting architectural ironwork...now primarily residential with art galleries and restaurants sprinkled in. I think you'll enjoy exploring it.

Anywhere in North Philly. Just make sure you do it early, because once some of the locals get up and they see some guy wandering around taking pictures, well, it was knowing you.

Many thanks for all the suggestions. Went through North Philly on Amtrak - how I'd love to wander round for a few hours next time I'm over.

ESP was totally amazing, I can't recommend it too highly to anyone who hasn't been.

I stayed with friends in South Philly and I got up early each day (6am) and wandered round for a couple of hours each time. Looking forward to a return visit in the future.
