Doesn't Rte 202 cross over into Jersey at New Hope? So she's trying to go to upstate NY meandering through Bucks County and then New Jersey. Jeez....that sounds like an awful ride. There has to be a much better way. Can't she take the NE Extension? Or at least look into taking 309....I've taken it all the way up to Rte 6 in the Endless Mountains and it's not that horrible a ride.

If you are going from Lansdale, and headed to Upstate NY, take I 476 N through Scranton and then up into NY on the Thruway.
If you are looking to go to Rockland Co. area of NY and upward long the Hudson River (i.e. directly N of the state of NJ), then it might make sense to go 202 into NJ and then I-287 N.

I'd even avoid 202...I'd take the NE Ext or 309 up to I-78 and then pick up I-287
But Syracuse or somewhere similar is best gotten to via I-476 to I-81 to I-87 and then from there you might need to hit I-90 to go toward Buffalo

The first question is where in upstate NY? As phlydude pointed out, there are two basic area's when people think of upstate - Albany- Lake George or The Finger Lakes-Buffalo-Syracuse.

Thanks guys. I need to map all these suggestions out. Mapquest told me 202. She will be going to the Albany area. So, if anyone knows the best route from there let me know.
Thanks

Hi movingkar- I go to school in Philly and I live just north of Albany and have to go through there to get to school.
If she isn't going to have a car at school, the best way to go is to take the Megabus or Amtrak from the Albany-Rensselaer train station to 30th street station via NYC (Penn Station).
But for when you drive: We usually go through Jersey (I-287) to I-87.
There is an alternate route I've taken but this is better for coming from the Allentown area. Take Route 33/209 through the Delaware Water Gap to I-84 to I-87. Lately there has been a lot of traffic near some little resort up there though, so I think getting to I-287 is better.

Take NJ Tp to exit 10. Pay toll. Go I 287 North I 287 Turns into I 17 after the NY thruway. Go to the toll and continue straight into Albany.
