I getcha.
West Chester may be the best fit for you, though as other posters has said it's a bit far from downtown. However, it offers plenty of shopping and restaurant options, and it's a mix of younger folks and families. Very similar to Dublin, OH in that way.
Let me know if you need any other questions answered from a former "Buckeye".

depending on how long you are on these roads, the tolls would only be a a few bucks. Nothing major.

Hey! I'm making the opposite move this summer! I agree with some of the others...Conshohocken or Collingswood would work. I feel like West Chester might be a bit far.

true, Conshohocken would be another area to look into. I'd liken Conshy to Clintonville (in Columbus terms): more urban, some bars and restaurants, decent access to downtown. It may be pricier than West Chester though, depending on the housing you choose.

I've lived in both cities.
Don't discount living in the city of Philadelphia. Philly is a live vibrant livable city as opposed to Columbus' downtown being a cold lifeless location. There are a lot of good places that have easy access to highways.
The downtown of Philly is a real treat, dont miss out on it

I agree with you RE: Philly's downtown being lively (and Columbus' downtown being boring) but if the OP is going to be driving around a lot for his job, downtown living may not be the best option. Not only is parking going to be an expense, but having to drive out of the city to get everywhere could be a pain.

The Pa. Turnpike toll from New Stanton, where I-70 joins up with I-76, east to King of Prussia is $17.50. If you go farther east than that you'll be paying more, of course.
Get used to it. They nickel and dime you to death in this state. Driving over to New Jersey is free; if you want to come back, they charge you $4. When I first moved here from Cincinnati, I joked that if they tried charging people to go back and forth from Ohio to Kentucky, nobody would bother.

The joke I always heard around here was that Jersey sucks so it's free to get in, but you have to pay to get back out.
