Question Apartment hunting Media, Pa or Cherry Hill, NJ

hi all

First off, I would like to tell you guys how much you're appreciated. I just joined the forum but have been using it for so long. When doing my research on Philly and suburbs and South NJ, I want to mention 2 guys whose posts were so helpful- rainrock and orrmobl. Thank you!

My family is moving to be near the Comcast HQ from Seattle. We are hoping to rent before buying. From all your posts, I have narrowed down my list of places to live to 1) Media, Pa or 2) Cherry Hill, NJ.

Yes, I have gone through all the posts about the other desirable places right from Haddonfield, NJ to Chaddsworth to Swarthmore etc. These 2 are my choices (can't keep going back and forth, its tough to make a decision sitting on the other coast!)

We are a small family with a 6 month old baby. We are Asian Indians. Will not have time to apartment hunt. Need to be in the area by August and need an apartment before that. Will probably have to do it online.

Please suggest specific apartment names in Media and Cherry Hill that you know are suitable (the usual-safe, spacious, amenities etc.)

Our needs are specific:
1) Safety
2) Cleanliness
3) Rent upto 1300
4) Need not be in an Indian dominated area (tho we know cherry hill is one!)
5) Grocery stores, pharmacy, doctor within 10m radius.

Please suggest some apartment names, which we can finalise online (probably a 6-12 month lease) as we won't be in the area before our big move. so we need to be doubly sure.

Thank you guys

The Waterford Apartments are good also and they are more affordable. Plus you will be about a mile from the Haddonfield PATCO stop.

nearly all the apartments in Media are run by the Media Real Estate Company...so you might want to check out their site. Media has a number of traditional apartments as well as parts of houses.
Cherry Hill and Media are both great places; but, are extremely different...

hi thats good to know. i am checking out all the apats mentioned. (i went to the media real estate site. only 1 of the links of madison suites apts is functioning!!!) in what way r media and cherry hill different? for a young family with a baby which is better? to specify:
  • young family 8 month old baby
  • family oriented activities-parks, playgrounds etc. preferred
  • proximity to grocery stores, pharmacy, paediatrician etc,
  • safe, secure environment as will be home alone with baby since spouse travels a lot
  • friendly down to earth people (no snobs!!!)
  • proximity to target, costco, norsdstrom (or equivalent), macys, sears etc.
so which one should I zero in on? media or cherry hill?
husband is trying to go on a business trip to east and will try to fit in 3-4 apartments seeing tours. so it would be be great if I could give him some names. everyone seems to be always complaining in apartmentratings.com

thanks

Media is a planned town thats 150 years old, street grid, quiet blocks, quaint homes, great family oriented area but the problem is the apartment accomodations tend to be older and outdated imo. Most of the apartment complexes are 30-40-50 years old.Great town to own a home, ehh apartments not so much.

I would suggest you broaden your search a bit to the West Chester area(15-20 minutes west of Media) WC has a great little downtown area but the surrounding area supports alot of newer more modern apartment/townhouse complexes. Coming from Seattle you may find the setting of the West Chester area more appealing, theres a little more elbow room and fresh air, its a very pleasant area. The downfall is that WC is about 45-1 Hr to Comcast compared to 20-30 minutes from Media.

I dont know much about Cherry Hill but my perception is that its more typical american suburban sprawl with newer apartment complexes compared to Media.

Try apartmentguide.com and of course craigslist to help your search. Good luck

thanks. WC seem to have a lot of apartments/twhomes ranging from $600-$1600 for a 2 bed/bath! is the utility going to be the clincher? better to go for a place with utilities included or not? I come from a place with no need for a/c and heat used 1.5 months a year!!!
any advice on decoding utilities greatly appreciated.

Cherry Hill by a mile over Media and WC, not even an argument IMO. CH is a vibrant place with top schools, TONS of shopping, restaurants and a new town center currently under development. Rents are going to be high but it's a high rent area. Depends what you are looking for, if you don't need schools, for example, there are some other areas in South Jersey to explore. Cherry Hill's location is superb for getting around the region, couldn't ask for a better location.

Cherry Hill Township

Money ranked CH among the Top 50 places to live in the US in 2006 and in the Top 10 for lowest crime.
