I'll be taking a weekend trip to Philidelphia this summer and was curious what attractions I should see. I already planned on seeing the Mueter museum and the liberty bell, but beyond that I'm clueless. I'm interested in a lot of things, and I like wierd things(hence the plans to see the mueter museum), so I'm open to anything. I'd like to see anything from normal tourist attratctions to cool nieghborhoods or musuems.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Wow, thanks. This stuff is looks awesome. Especially the Eastern State Penitentiary! Thank you so much! That is right up my alley. We went to the Mansfield State penitentiary in Ohio a year ago and we've wanted to see more since. This is perfect.

Also, can anyone tell me more about the Fairmount neighborhood where the Penitentiary is located? Is it somewhere worth visiting?

And where is Temple University located? I'm thinking about graduate school and I figured I might as well kill two birds with one stone and visit campus. Any other university's in the city? How far away is Bryn Mawr? It's an all chicks school, but I heard it has a beautiful campus.

temple is a fairly short trip up the broad street line

there are other schools in the city - most notably UPenn & Drexel west of 30th street ....... also some smaller schools, med schools, etc in the city itself

I used to live by the art museum and the neighborhood was decent - a couple neat bars, but I probably wouldn't wander it too much ...... the parkway is nice in the summer, so I'd probably hit ESP and then make my way back towards the city

if you want a beer and a killer roast pork with provolone and a spicey horseradish hit cherry street tavern

Philadelphia - Official Visitor Site - Gophila.com: Things To Do, Events, Hotels, Restaurants and more is a great tourist website.

Id recommend the Masonic Temple for something very gothic and offbeat.
The Masonic Temple Online Tour

Neighborhoods ? How about Manayunk/ Chestnut Hill.

Valley Forge National Historic Park is only 15- 20 minutes west of the city, well worth a visit if you have the time or interest in american history.

Haha. Yeah, I may root against Temple now, but I can't deny the fact that you're school has some good programs. You still aren't to U@B's level.
