Hello! I'm a temple grad, class of 07 and I have relatives in Sligo That said...I'm not too keen about any areas off campus around Temple, you're literally surrounded on all sides by some of the worst neighborhoods in Philly...not so much to the south of campus but definitely to the N, E, and W. If you could afford to live on campus that would be best I would say. Avoid Broad and Dauphin like the plague, in fact I think that general neighborhood has seen about 3 cop killings in the last year or so. I don't want to scare you because I loved my time @ Temple and its a really good school but it really is surrounded by a crappy neighborhood and that's not an exaggeration by some suburban girl who took the train in daily. When you go to orientation the 1st thing they tell you and they STRESS it is that you are safest on campus and they strongly recommend that you do not leave campus, esp. alone, or at night. The Temple police force is in the top 10 in the state of PA as far as size goes, so there are plenty of police crammed into a small geographical area, but once you no longer see the bic razors (its an inside joke of the students, there are blue poles w/ solar panels on top that have a push button that will summon the police for an emergency, and they look like bic shaving razors erected on the sidewalk), once you stop seeing those poles on the corners you are @ your own risk basically. Good luck!

Fairmount, as it is called, is much better than living next to Temple in any direction. I wonder if it's even less sketchy since the Youth Study Center moved out of Fairmount now?
