Default Young Scottish Professionals

Hello Everyone,

My name is Andrew Marr, i am an ex golf pro from Troon, living and working in Philadelphia - i have been here almost 2 years and since moving over i have been trying to find ways to celebrate my Scottish heritage as well as providing Philadephians with some Scottish culture.

I would like to discuss a couple of things with you all if i may. I am a member of The St Andrews Society of Philadelphia -
http://www.standrewsociety.org its an unbelievable organization that was
initially established/ founded in 1747 by Scottish gentleman living in
Philadelphia, the sole purpose at that time was to raise money for "Scots in
need". Since those days The Society has formed into an integral part of
Philadelphia culture raising money for students in Scotland to study in
America and vice versa. I have been a member for almost a year and in that
time I have made some very unique and beneficial contacts. The Society is
400 strong with the average age around 50 years old; I have a vision along
with another "young" Scottish member Andrew Pack (executive director of the
The Variety Club of Philadelphia) to establish a Young Scottish
Professionals of Philadelphia component of the society.

Firstly to even establish such a society/ network, myself and Andrew have to track down as many native Scots and decedents as possible that are below 40 years old. We would like to set up a get together around June 1st in the city to cement some Scottish contacts and create a vision for the future.

I would be very excited for you to attend and share some of your thoughts
with us - also do any of you know any other "young Scots" in the area?

I hope to hear from you very soon.

Andrew Marr
The Young Professionals Network of Philadelphia

Andrew, Good luck with your endeavors. You are probably are already aware of this but another way to meet young Scots and for any other Scottish people that read your post, there is a big Celtic Festival in Bethlehem, PA in late September: http://www.celticfest.org/2007CelticClassic/CelticClassic_FestivalInfo.html (broken link) Bethlehem is just under two hours north of Philadelphia. It's a beautiful time of year to visit with the leaves just turning.
