As a note, the firm I work for has locations all around the country, the world in fact, and I've been there long enough and am senior enough that if I wanted to, I could transfer offices, even back to TX if I wanted, however have stayed here. So obviously if I felt like a "fish out of water" I would have moved a while ago.

Hello I am 23 and moving to the philly area for grad school, I am 23 from Austin, TX lived in Houston (loved Houston!!!), and dallas, African American and now moving to Philly. I have a dog pug/chiuhahu mix whom will probably eventually move up with me... easy going chill person, I am in need of a roommate b/c like you have found that apartments are expensive if you are interested hit me up (if you are still in the texas area) Maybe we can meet....
