Default where to live in greater philly

I'm looking for some advice on where to live in greater philadelphia. I work in Ridley Park, and my fiance will be going to school at the University of the Arts. We are looking for a good (safe) neighborhood that isnt a ridiculous drive for either of us; I know 76 is a nightmare. We are also looking for younger, fun area, with a nightlife, that isnt too expensive (a two bedroom for maybe 900-1300 a month). we also dont know anyone here, so were looking for an area that would be easy to meet people. any advice would be appreciated.

I would consider passyunk square in south philly, it's affordable, a LOT of young people around and about a 10-20 min walk to U of Arts.

Or a very quick subway ride in bad weather.

Lansdowne or Drexel Hill are probably about in the middle and safe. I wouldn't recommend 69th St. or Upper Darby. Seems to be getting a bit worse right now.

Bella Vista is also a great neighborhood. It's just a couple blocks below South Street, between 6th and 10th, heading south to Washington Avenue. I'd aim for north of Christian Street and south of Bainbridge Street, between 6th and 10th....which still offers plenty of choices. Lots of younger professionals, close to great restaurants, nightlife and shopping, and walkable to U Arts (or a short bus ride in bad weather). It's a friendly place, I know someone who lives there and it seems to have a good sense of community. You can find nice two bedroom apartments pretty readily on Craigslist there in the $1100-$1300 range.

I'd second Passyunk Square. If you're not sure of the boundaries, they are: Washington Ave. to the north, Tasker St. to the south, 6th St. to the east, Broad St. to the west.

Passyunk Square Civic Association

I would second the South Philly suggestions. It's an easy subway ride to U Arts and a short trip down 95 to Ridley Park.

South Philly is your best bet to give you the nightlife you want. The Delco burbs offers some nightlife, but may be more sedate, family oriented than you want right now.
