There is a large furniture store just off the Morgantown exit of the Turnpike, right next to BB's. I can't think of the name of it. If I remember correctly you have to buy what's on display. Pretty good selection and prices. Also, Just Cabinets in Temple is a great place for wood furniture, mattresses and other things.

A lot of people look down their nose at Ikea furniture but for certain things you can't beat it. You could make the trip to Conshahaken (20 miles west of Philly) to see what you like and then order it on line and have it all delivered. I love my upulstered pieces that I bought three years ago. It is so comfortable and really inexpensive.

The above posts got two of the three places I'd look:

1. Ikea off I-476 in Conshohocken. If you've never been, Ikea (any kea) is the best at setting up their own stuff in
actual rooms just like it would be in a home, apt or condo. Especially the apr or condo.

2. A place called "The Dump", Oaks exit off Rt 422. Only open Fri, Sat and Sun. Supposedly outlet sales from bigger furniture retailers. Their store is huge.

3. The Morgantown furntiure outlet mall, off the PA Turnpike Morgantown exit. IMO, this has gone downhill over the years. They used to have good stuff at bargain prices, not so bargain anymore. But still a worthwhile place to look.

P.S: Morgantown is the closest of these to Reading.

Take a look at The Dump. You will probably have to make several trips there, but you will probably find whatever you need or want. Just check the furniture very carefully before taking it home. There are a number of interior designers in the area who only buy mattresses at The Dump because they consider them to be the best.

I also recomend the Dump. I go just to look about every six months. Sometimes i see a few things I like and somtimes they don't have one thing they could give me for free. That is the nature of the place. Mostly one of a kind stuff. However it would be hard to furnish a whole house in one or two visits unless you are extraordinarilly lucky. If you are looking for just the right piece for a spot then you shouldn't miss it. Also I'm not sure if they deliver.

If they don't deliver, there are a few "two guys and a truck" services in nearby King of Prussia. And these services are advertised all the time on Craigs List. To the original poster, The Dump is on Rt 422, which is a direct route into Reading, under an hour drive time.

The Dump delivers and the one in Oaks has a great selection. I got a high-end four-piece bedroom set there for 2k and they waived delivery fee since I bought a mattress as well. It really depends on what you're looking for though. If you want higher end real wood pieces, definitely check out the dump. If you want to go economy and quality is not critical to you, you'll be able to get everything you need at Ikea. Note: By high-end I'm not passing judgement on reliability. If assembled correctly, Ikea furniture will last. However, only one of their lines is actually real wood and there is an obvious difference in look and feel of Ikea pieces compared to higher-end pieces.

If you go to IKEA, at the beginning of that "drive" is Ashley Furniture. They have a good mix of traditional and contemporary furniture. Check them out on line as well. Crate and Barrel is in the King of P mall parking lot. Can you tell I've been looking If you find something good....let us know please!

Check out David's Furniture in Mohnton, Berks County. Way nicer stuff than Raymour and Flanigan and good prices too. We found a really cool river rock table there and they have lots of brands on the floor to test drive.
