Looking for Country Bars in the Philadelphia Area
Hello Everyone,
Just found this forum and am hoping you may be able to recommend some good country bars in the Philadelphia area. I'm hoping to surprise my fiance and take her to a fun country bar on Thursday. I know she is hoping to find a good bar that will have a dance floor and if at all possible a live band as well. Granted I do realize that a Thursday may not be the most exciting night, but we'll end up going more if its good anyway.
I am hoping to find one within an hour radius of Villanova University. If you could recommend some places to check out I would greatly appreciate it.

The only place I know of that plays country music is a place in Quakertown called Montana West. I know that is going to be a long drive from Villanova but there are probably others close by. Montana West is the real deal though - google them, they have a website. They have country some nights and hip hip some nights, bull riding pit, live music, line dancing and everything.

Yay! Glad I could help. I've been a couple of times with a gal pal of mine who loves country (not my thing but I'm supportive lol) and even I have to admit, I had a great time - it's a lot of fun and the people are fun too. If you go, have a great time!

There is no such thing as a country bar in the Philly region or most parts of the country. The stuff played on the commercial radio is not country, and the whole nightclub line dancing routine is very tacky. The closest thing around here is a listening room called Godfreys Daniels in Bethlehem which is non-profit and books true Americana artist. They may be more bluesy or folksy, but the artist have more country credibility than any of these other jabronies out there. So, if you want real Americana country, google Godfreys Daniels, and look at their schedule.
Last night myself and 29 other people enjoyed Kevin Gordon from Nashville, and he kicked but! He played a duet with Lucinda Williams a few years ago. As to why only 30 were there, that speaks to the lack of taste and hipness of the average jabronie. Speaking of Lucinda, she's real country! I would pay $500 to watch her kick Shania Twain's and Faith Hill's behinds in a handicapped Steel cage match. She could and she probably would! You don't mess with Lucinda!
