Unhappy Philly suburbs - Work in Broomall, live in Swarthmore, want to move out!

Hi,

I've recently moved here after graduation because of I found a job in Broomall. I am currently living in Swarthmore...some pros, lots of cons...It's a really safe area, and a very short commute to work (15 mins) but it is soo boring, and it seems like there are a lot of senior citizens. My bf also lives in Huntingdon Valley, which makes it a very long commute to visit him.

I'm looking to move into an area that would be halfway between Broomall and Hungtindon Valley, safe area, off street parking, with more young professionals...I'm looking to move into a 1bedroom apartment, with rent of $800-1000/month. I work from 8-5 and would like to keep the commute to max 30-35 mins (traffic included). I'd also like to be able to hop on a train easily to go into the city on evenings or weekends.

Heard that Manayunk was a good area...any other good areas out there?

The key term is boring in this case. Doesn't sound like you want anything too slow paced. Besides Manayunk, which was going to be my first suggestion, you could also consider being near "some action" like in East Falls, West Mt. Airy, or Chestnut Hill. Everything further out will be more boring. I would love to be in your situation right now, lol.

Thanks for the answer! well I'm a laid back girl who enjoys sitting home, but too much is too much! It would be nice to be able to go out and have fun after work once in a while without having to be stuck in traffic for an hour...I'm new in town so it is very boring to just sit home after work...I've driven by Chestnut Hill the other day, it looked really nice! Are these areas better than Manayunk concerning the parking issue?

All of them are better than Manayunk for parking. Manayunk is horrible for parking, and I wouldn't suggest living there unless you don't have a car, have a spot for a car already, or plan to rent a car instead.

If you move to Manayunk you will pay City Wage Tax. Try Bryn Mawr or another College Town with some night life

Look at Conshohocken. Some things to do in the form of a few bars, a few bookstores, restaurants, no city wage tax, (but they have their own 1% wage tax). Close to Manayunk if you want to more nightlife. Not quite halfway between Broomall and Huntington Valley, a little closer to Broomall.
