Default Philadelphia Vs. Pittsburgh Accent

We moved from Pittsburgh 2 months ago. I like the area and all, but one thing has been bothering me a lot so I thought some one in this group can shed some light.
I am originally from India and have been living in Pittsburgh for past 7 years, when I was in Pittsburgh people never made me conscious of my accent. My co workers even used to ask me if I was born here because they did not notice any accent at all. I never had to repeat a thing.
But after coming here at least once a day I have to repeat because some one did not understand what I am saying!! Some times I end up spelling the word!!
Is it because Philadelphians stress syllables differently? Or is it they presume that people with color have accent and don't bother to listen properly? Any thoughts?

You have to repeat yourself once a day . . . and you're looking for reasons to be offended?
I was born 70 miles from here and I repeat myself all day long.

Do you have this accent . . .
YouTube - 07: "Greg and Donny Have An Accent" . . . ?

You may have picked up a bit of a Pittsburgh accent. My husband is from the area, and ever since we moved to Maine people have often remarked to him "You're not from around here, are you?" No one has ever seemed to notice that I was from someplace else too. Gotta admit though, when I returned to Philly years ago after having spent a couple of years in Arizona, someone did ask me where I was from. I guess I picked up a little Arizona.
