As a long-term resident of Newtown, I would reccommend it to you. I have a feeling the Eastern parts of the township just outside the boro might be the best for you! It's walkable and bikable, most houses are in the price range you desire, there are a lot of nice resturantes and shops, and it is only a few miles to Woodbourne Station for trains to Philly, and it is a ten mile ride down I-95 to the outer parts of Northeast Philly.
