Default Guidos and Other Various Dirtbags in Philadelphia

Hello. I'm a 28-yr. old black chick from a Nigerian family. I know in 4-5 yrs., I will be headed to live in Philadelphia to do the whole college thing over again, go for a Ph.D., and start a career and new life. But, I'm concerned.

I lived in Bronx, NYC till I was 7, then in Tampa, FL 10 yrs., and now in Orlando, FL for 10yrs. now, so my NY experience and Northerner experience is limited. Anyway, I just saw the premiere of the show Jersey Shore on MTV. I was SOOOOO disgusted. I absolutely HATE arrogant, cocky, superficial, and belligerent people. Here is a show that basically stuck 4 Guidos in a house with 4 other girls for the summer at Seaside Heights, NJ (Jersey Shore). I've never seen such arrogance, belligerence, and cockiness in my life. Ugggggggh! Don't get me wrong. I think Italian men are VERY, VERY sexy, but not as a bunch of dirtbags/douchebags, who want to nail every girl they see. Anyway, my point has less to do with dating and more to do with personalities (I go more for Puerto Ricans anyway).

With Philadelphia being so close to New Jersey, should I expect to bump elbows with a lot of undesirable characters such as these? Or in general, are Philadelphians as rude and cold and closed off as New Yorkers? Are Northerners, in general, cold, closed off, unfriendly people? Would I get a strange look or be ignored if I just asked a Philadelphian about bus routes or directions? Down here in Central and Southern Florida, there are a TON of Northerners, from Chicago, NYC, Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia, etc. I've noticed how a some of them feel the need to act real hard or ignore strangers when they ask questions. Or maybe that's just a black Northerner thing or a hood thing. Thankfully, I don't live in the hood (People there are so closed off, cold, and rude). Anyway, how open and friendly are Philadelphians compared to NYC and New Jersey? And can I expect plenty of dirtbag Guidos like the ones I saw on this show?

You're a racist. The worse parts of Philadelphia are better then 99% of Nigeria, where they still kill and rape each other over religion, and practice cannibalism.

Why are you attacking her? The OP doesn't even know Nigeria! Shes been in the United States since before she was 7 years old for well over 20 years!

If you think her post is racist, then you should think that the producers of the television show are racist. They're the ones who portrayed people the way the OP describes!

I'm so relieved to hear that they don't just do it to white people! I've been so taken aback when I've had a black person ignore me when I asked a simple question!

Calling an Italian person a "Guido" - let alone a dirtbag along with it - is not appropriate for this forum.
