Hello,
Im flying out of Newark airport in 2 weeks time and Im a little confused as how to get there. Is there a NJ transit train from 30th st station in Philly that goes to Newark airport? Or do I need to change somewhere along the way? Different websites were saying different things and I will be rushing from work to the airport so cant afford to do something stupid like get the wrong train end up stranded in the middle of New jersey!
Thanks for any clarification!

You actually have two options: 1) You can take SEPTA's R7 train from 30th Street to Trenton, at which point you would change to NJ Transit's Northeastern Corridor train which has a stop at Newark Airport. The R7 trains usually line up so that they stop behind the NJ Transit train which leaves soon afterward. You can buy a combo ticket for the whole trip at the NJ Transit vending machine at 30th Street. Check out SEPTA | Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority and njtransit.com for schedule info.

Or 2) You can take Amtrak from 30th Street to Newark Airport with no change of trains. You'll save about an half hour of time with no PA stops after 30th Street. However, you'll probably pay at least double the SEPTA/NJ Transit combo... and you'll be stopping at most of the same NJ stops.

Good luck!

Take the SEPTA train (or a cab) from PHL to 30th St Station and then take either Amtrak to Newark or SEPTA to Trenton and then transfer to NJ Transit train to Newark.

It's an easy transfer once you get to Trenton. Just follow everyone else a platform over to the platform that takes you to New York on NJ Transit.

Amtrak is more expensive but is an express route with no transfer and far less stops.

But Amtrak stops in the city of Newark. Unless something has changed there is no Amtrak Nework airport stop.

Amtrak has a stop at the end of the Newark AirTrain system, which goes to the terminals. I believe any Amtrak ticket with Newark Airport as the destination gets you onto the AirTrain free of charge. Otherwise you have to buy a separate ticket for it.

The bolded part above is correct.

Simplest answer for Christina Chambers:

1) Take SEPTA Airport Line from Philadelphia International Airport to 30th Street Station (the primary intercity train station in Philadelphia).

2) Walk from the upper concourse (SEPTA Regional Rail concourse) to the lower concourse (Amtrak/main concourse) at 30th Street Station. The concourses are in the same building.

3) Ride any northbound Amtrak Northeast Corridor train to Newark Penn Station. Newark Penn Station is in downtown Newark.

SEPTA Regional Rail system map: SEPTA | Clickable Regional Rail & Rail Transit Map
*The Airport is near the bottom of the map, while 30th Street Station is almost directly above it where the blue, green, and yellow lines/symbols are shown.

Amtrak Northeast Corridor Line schedule: http://www.amtrak.com/ccurl/780/620/...ule-011215.pdf

Amtrak is pretty expensive, so IF YOU DECIDE AMTRAK COSTS TOO MUCH:

As has been already noted, as an alternative to Step 3 above, you can take the SEPTA Trenton Line from 30th Street Station to the Trenton Transit Center, and then the NJ Transit Northeast Corridor Line from Trenton Transit Center to Newark Penn Station.
