My husband and I have moved to PA from GA, specifically Newtown, and are considering moving again in the next 6-7 months. We have no kids and would like to live somewhere there is more of a night life, we just moved from a college town with a vibrant nightlife. The biggest problem is our two large dogs, most likely ruling out the center city area of Philly. Would like to be able to go out on the weekends and walk / take public transport home. My husband has a commute to the Ewing/Newark NJ area, but also goes into Philly several times a month. We are in a lease until June, so we have some time to investigate some areas. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

How long have you been here? Have you been to Doylestown, Princeton, New Hope, Lambertville, or Collinswood? They are a little more happening than Newtown but I would not call them vibrant.

I would not rule out the city. There are some neighborhoods that might fit your lifestyle. I would checkout East Falls, Manayunk and Chestnut Hill.

Manayunk/Roxborough and East Falls provides a great nightlife in walkable distances. As for your dogs, you would be able to find some houses with a decent sized yard for them to run around. Especially in Manayunk/Roxborough. They are about a 10-15 minute drive to Center City. This link might help Manayunk.com - What's New in Manayunk?. This area is my personal choice.

Don't be discouraged to look in Center City. Large dogs aren't popular with landlords anywhere but no more so in CC then the suburbs. Many people walk large dogs on the street and there are parks. Rittenhouse Square is dog heaven.
