You did the right thing. My female cousin was harassed daily by African-Americans while training to drive a bus. She routinely heard "white *****" and "white girl" was asked when "she gonna quit" and they were taking bets on how long she would last. She told them to "shove it up their asses" and ignored them the rest of the way. She's been driving for five years now, making enough to support her kids and a household.
I hear firsthand accounts about the same type of behavior at the USPS. Actively racist people should rot in hell.

I'm black and this ridiculous behavior just shows how little these people know about the history of racism wrt transit in Philadelphia. Black people were actively barred from these jobs, years ago, with the old PTC and now they're behaving in a similar way toward whites who want to apply to SEPTA.

I forget the year(Octavius V. Catto was still alive), but when black people were first permitted to ride public transportation in Philadelphia, there were street car operators arrested for denying them this right.
There were a lot of bad decisions regarding black people in the past that we're paying for now. Although, it still doesn't excuse bad behavior for today's individuals, we're each responsible for our own actions.

Danny, You've resurrected an old thread. It might be better if you start a new one.

SEPTA is the worse, the workers have no manners. There are some nice bus drivers. The problem in Philly is that since it is a predominately union town, people think they can do what they want to do. You also see it working in the City of Philadelphia, that people tend to get lax, lazy and rude cause it is hard to fire them.

Septa is consistently hiring drivers due to high turnover. Management is hard as hell on drivers and the passengers are just as bad and if not worse. If you can tolerate not having a life(weekends, holidays, no set schedule and no sleep) for the first few years while being micro managed you will do fine at SEPTA. If you have your CDL it's helpful with getting through 6- 8 weeks of training. Training is like bootcamp most don't make it through. My husband was 1 of 5 in a class of 25 to make it through. That was a year ago. He got called three weeks after applying.

You have explained why some of the drivers look miserable when I ride the bus. Now I know their attitude is a result of a long shift on top of being micromanaged.

Everything you saying is true but you can get stabbed any where for free. You do get good benefits and it's a job if you don't have one. I rather get paid good for the BS then to put up with $7-$9 for the BS
