Both should be fine. 2400 Chestnut would certainly be the most convenient.

My wife and I are also moving to Philadelphia soon. We saw about 7 or 8 buildings when we visited and eventually settled on 2400 Chestnut. The apartments are a little smaller than what we're used to, but the amenities (shuttle to Penn, onsite parking, free onsite gym, etc) outweighed our desire for a larger place. It also seemed like less of a dorm than some of the other buildings we visited.

FWIW, we didn't really look at 1500 Locust since the pricing for available units was way more than what we were looking to pay.
