Looking at a job in the Wayne/St. Davids/Radnor area. However, I've only got about $700 -800 for rent. I need more than a studio or efficiency, so it's gotta be a 1 bedroom at least.

I have a feeling I'm looking for what doesn't exist.

I could go a little further out, but not over 30 minutes, and even that's pushing it a bit. In fact, most of the apartments I've found in nicer areas 30 minutes out are still way out of my budget.

I'm single so there's no splitting costs with anyone (roommate is not an option).

Does anyone in that area make $45k or less? It doesn't seem like it. Is it possible to live in the Main Line area for that?

Your thread title should read, "I think the Main Line is too expensive for me" You are looking at an area of the state with the highest cost of living. My guess is that you need to live outside of that area.

This is the credited response.

The OP needs to find someplace else to live. There's a reason you don't find many people making that wage in that area.

Consider looking further south in Broomall, Newtown Square or Springfield. You may have better luck finding a 1B in your range there. And you'll be fairly convenient to the Blue Route (I-476) for traveling up to that part of the Main Line.

What are those areas like? Safe? Nice?

Yes and yes. These are generally "typical" middle-class communities so while they might not be as upscale as what you'll see around your employer, they are perfectly fine. Upper Darby (where I lived for a number of years), Drexel Hill, Clifton Heights and Lansdowne would fit even better within your budget but I wouldn't put them in quite the same category.
