I've been living in Hatfield for over two years now. My plan was to never move here. My fiance and I were planning on moving to the city before we even moved in together, but certain circumstances made it difficult and here we are still. I cant stand it here, there's nothing to do. Im Dominican and I grew up in Santo Domingo. Im used to live downtown, where there's stores, restaurants, art galleries and things always happening. He grew up in Hatboro and Hatfield, has lived in the city, but only when he was single and likes it.
Im a stay at home mom, but I'd like to look for a job. Mt. Airy seems like a nice place to live with kids. We have a couple that we're friends with that lives there and Im pretty excited about the food co-op there.
Some concerns are the rates of car insurance in the city and my fiance commuting or taking the train to work. Im open to listening about other neighborhoods, he suggested we move to Hatboro today, but I dont like the idea at all.
Im very into art, museums, shows, fairs. He's very into music

When are you moving? Probably the summer
Where are you coming from? Hatfield, PA
Why are you moving? Extremely bored, hate it here, will end up becoming some sort of pyromaniac if I continue to live here
Where will you be working? My Fiance will continue to work in Hatfield, but his family sold the company so his job might be transferred somewhere else
Have you been here yet? I havent been in Mt. Airy, but I've been in the city plenty of times and love Philly.

Will you buy or rent? rent
If buying, are you looking for a house or a condo? How much can you spend?
If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? How much can you spend? Any really. Probably a 1000 or less
Do you prefer hi-rise or walk up? either is fine

Are you married or single? Do you have children? Practically Married. Yes, my daughter is 10 months. My stepson is 4 1/2 and is only with us some days
Do you prefer public or private schools? Not sure, I see they have a waldorf school in Mt. Airy and I want to find out more about it.
Do you have pets? A cat
Do you want or need a yard? No
Are you keeping a car? Yes
Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? In between

What do you want to be closest to?
Work
Shopping-yes
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.) yes
Nightlife
Train or subway stations - yes

Do you want to live with people of a similar age, race, religion or sexual preference or do you prefer a diverse neighborhood? I prefer a diverse neighborhood

A nice place for a family in Mt. Airy might be hard to find for $1K a month.

There are many rental listings in Mt Airy for two bedroom apartments for under $1000 a month. I think Mt Airy is a good choice. Focus on the area around the coop.

Mt. Airy aint exactly "the city", but is within the city limits, and fairly vibrant.

Yes, I saw the rent for a lot of nice places there is way cheaper than were I live right now. I know it isnt exactly the city. I dont think I want to move IN the city with kids, that's why I like Mt. Airy because it seems to bring the best of both worlds.

Thanks for your responses. We might be looking at more places in Montgomery County (NOT Hatfield because I hate it) because it makes sense just since my fiance's work is here and my stepson lives here, so we would have to be driving back and forth.

So I might make another thread looking for some recommendations for nice places in MontCo.
