Wedding Receptions
Looking to get married in 2009. Interested to see if anyone can offer some ideas about places to have a reception. We are having the ceremony in a church, but looking for a nice AFFORDABLE reception, like no more than 75 per person. Even that is a lot. Anyways, we are interested in any ideas about unique places, and even hearing about halls and hiring out for catering.
Where have people celebrated their weddings in Philadelphia (and surrounding areas)?
p.s. I have looked at popular websites for locations, looking for personal experience here.

For a hall, here is where we had ours.....Springton Manor in Glenmoore Pa.
Not a bad ride from Philly area.
Gorgeous country views and spectacular grounds when all the flowers
are in bloom ! I cant remember how much it was but I do recall getting
a fabulous deal on the grounds rental becase it was an 'off' day.

Best wishes on your new life !

Philadelphia is a large area. Can you be more specific? Is the church booked?
Unfortunately Philadelphia can get quite expensive. Here are some ideas:
Try fire halls. They can be nice. Trevose Fire Co. has a nice hall.
Also try Knights of columbus or 4H clubs, they sometimes have hall.
Knights in Glenside is nice. Lots of windows. Not far from the city.
Glen Foerd Manor 5001 Grant Avenue Philadelphia, PA. 19114 Office Hours: Monday - Friday, 9AM - 5PM (215) 632-5330 Fax: (215) 632-2312 E-mail: info@glenfoerd.org Glen Foerd on the Delaware - Historic Riverfront Estate Absolutely beautiful. Build around 1850. I've been to teas there. Don't know if big enough or rooms are too choppy. They don't advertise that they do weddings. Might be expensive but you never know.
The College of Physicians of Philadelphia 19 South 22nd St. Philadelphia, PA 19103 PHONE 215-563-3737 :: CCP – General Information :: Accommodates up to 500 guests. They'll open up the Mutter Museum to your guests, it's really cool all kinds of medical anomalies and stuff, I think there's an extra fee. They also have gardens. Don't know about price here either. My Aunt had her reception here 15yrs ago.
Celebrations 2201 Galloway Road Bensalem, PA 19020 (215) 244-4400 Wedding Facilities - Celebrations Weddings Very inclusive packages. Know 3 couples who had good experiences there. About 20min from center city.
Normandy Farm Route 202 & Morris Rd. Blue Bell, PA (212) 616-8500 Normandy Farm Historic Property Whitpain Township Montgomery County Blue Bell PA Accommodates up to 400 people. High ceilings. Converted barn. Also has a sister site, Blue Bell Country Club. About 30 miles from center city. No idea on pricing. Looks expensive.
Blaire Mill Inn Horsham, PA I think it's around $65-$70 per person, good package. About 40min north of center city
Warrington Country Club I think around $65-$70 per person, good package. About 50min. from center city
Try Peddlers village.
I just went through this headache so if I can help you any further don't hesitate to ask. I hope this helped.
Best Wishes!

thanks for all of the info.
I live in Northeast Philly, and the church has not been booked yet, I thought it too early, but it will be at some point. Our church is in the northeast as well, but I am willing to look outside of the immediate area for less costly receptions.
A few of the suggestions look good, I will research them. I had looked into Glen Foerd, beautiful, but I know that there and Celebrations are over 100 per person. Scandalous.
We will be having nearly 200 people, so very small venues won't work.
I am interested in hearing about rental halls though, since it may be cheaper to hire out for everything, but the planning might be cumbersome.

We had our reception at the Independence Seaport Museum. It was pretty cool. The cocktail hour was in the museum, and they have a reception hall up stairs.

Spring Mill Country Club, Ivyland which is in Bucks County. It's very nice, voted best in Bucks County. My daughter is in a wedding there next month.

Wedding Reception
I was married at the Brookside Manor- it is JUST outside NE Philly in Feasterville. It was by far the most beautiful place we saw for the money. I think it was $63/head on Fridays, $73 on Saturdays...
Here is the site, though the pictures are simply awful and do not do it justice!

I got married at Romano's Catering, in Philadelphia. They have 3 different "rooms". The Capri room is for a smaller wedding, and it's layout/style is pretty boring. Then there's another room-forget the name, that is huge and pretty. I got married in "The Old Mill Room". Once I saw it...it was mine. It consits of wood ceilings, stone and brick details...2 waterfall water fountains, a working fireplace...and a seperate yet connected cocktail room with a huge bar...and it also has an adjacent bridal suite and men/women bathrooms. The service food was great. I got married in January on a Sunday...I don't remember the pricing but it was $75 and under.......BUT, even if you have to pay more..........it includes almost everything. It included flowers for the tables, it included the cake, the champagne toast....nothing was extra (some places charge extra for linen and so on). I used the same person who did the flowers for the table for my bridal party, and you wouldn't believe how cheap they were for what I got. And, they came recommended by 3 other people I knew that used them.
Here's the link:

thanks for the suggestion! The place looks beautiful, and familiar, I think we may have had family have a wedding reception there.
Also, looks like our budget has dropped, or actually we are being more realistic, so if anyone knows of place for around $50 per person, I'd appreciate the suggestions!
