Hello:
I am a 32yo male who will be moving from Boston to Philadelphia to begin work at the university of Pennsylvania hospital as a medical resident. I have two dogs, one is a 9yo cattle dog staffordshire mix, and the other a 1yo rescue which we think may be a boxer pit mix, both great dogs who underwent extensive training. Because my hours will be varied I will likely have to drive and will need to be in an area which is dog friendly. I have had tons of problems with locating an apartment w/o breed restrictions and have no idea what area to look into. I even will consider driving in to the city if necessary. Budget wise 900-1150. All the websites I find are for apartment complexes and I would rather rent in non-complexes where my life wont be made more difficult because of my dogs. Any help with regards to location and Realtor/listings would be appreciated. Thank you very much !
PS
when replying please stay on topic and don't start flaming about breed restrictions or my choice of dogs to rescue thanks

What do you mean you would be willing to drive in to the city if necessary? Penn is in the city. You will have to drive in to the city.

If I was working at Penn I would live at Fitler Square, UCity or East Falls.

Fitler Square is a short walk just across the S. Street bridge from Penn and there is a park which might be a dog park right there.

UCity is the neighborhood surrounding Penn.

East Falls is a short drive and has great parks.

If you do a search you should be able to find pics of those neighborhoods.

West Philadelphia, where Penn is located, is one of the most dog-friendly neighborhoods in the world, partly because of Penn's having a vet school. You should have no problem finding an apartment there. If your dogs are social, there's a really nice 'Bark Park' at Clark Park, below Baltimore Avenue from 43rd to 45th Streets.

Here's a map: Google Maps

University City and Powelton Village are each worth looking into.

I like to say that my personal boundary lines are between 43rd and 48th/49th going east to west and Locust to Springfield going north to south. East of 43rd would have you mingling with Penn students and their flexible schedules. All other edges would have you starting to deal with some of West Philly's more challenged neighborhoods (Pine, Larchwood and Osage to 52nd St being one positive exception).

Clark Park is located between 43rd and 44th Streets, and Baltimore and Springfield Ave. with Chester Ave. breaking things up in the middle.

I don't know enough about Powelton Village to offer suggestions there.

I'd want to live as close to Clark Park as possible, so I'd look between there and the place where you'll be spending your days. I think anywhere in the tree streets in the 40s would be good.

I'll bet the vet school has a list of people who rent to students with dogs.
