Job in downtown, where to move?
We're moving to Philly and my work is in Downtown (close to Logan Square). Since we don't know anything about the area, we're confused where we should look into, regarding the housing.
Our budget is 300-350k and we're looking for a safe suburb with good schools. I wouldn't like to commute more than 30mins/way a day. I'd rather take a train than drive myself. We're interested in newer houses (less than 10yrs old). Any help would be welcomed!

Montgomery County
The area around Harleysville is the age you are looking at and close to the price range but a longer commute then what you anticipate.
You may have a hard time finding a home that is 10 years or younger in your price range.
SEPTA is the regional rail carrier and they have a number of rural lines that will get you to the city quickly. Check out their website for travel times and schedules
All the best.

The Main Line, places such as Ardmore, Wynnewood, Haverford, Narberth and Bryn Mawr would be good choices. You can take the R5 Septa Train to suburban station at 17th and Market. Schools are excellent.

Thanks. The main line seems to be the best option right now. Are the any new development in that area, or are all the houses old (+30 years)?

The schools out on the main line are excellent....your housing budget will only get you a very small 3 bedroom, 1-1/2 bath. The house will nine times out of ten be 30+ years old and in need of repairs or updating. Good Luck!

You may also want to consider New Jersey. You can take the high-speed line into center city (fast and reliable). There are more new developments there (prices are lower than PA, but taxes are high). Schools are very good. Look in Marlton, Mt. Laurel and Cherry Hill.

Unfortunately any new single family home development in Pa within 30 minutes of center city is going to start at $500-$600 K.
$350 K might get you something fairly new(5-10 yrs.) in the Garnet Valley area**Concord Township-Bethel Township-Chester Heights** (45 Minute commute to Center City)It has a great school district. Very nice new growing area, this is in western Delaware County. Other than that you would have to go way out to Downingtown,Phoenixville Collegeville areas to get newer housing $300-$350K.
As newmarlig said South Jersey might be a good option. Not quite as scenic as the Pa suburbs but good solid communities outside of Camden.
good luck
