If I go at really off hours, I'll take NJ turnpike to the GW bridge then the Cross Bronx to 95, but typically, I'll go NJ turnpike to exit 11, Garden State Parkway to 287 and across the Tappan Zee. Depending on where I'm lading in Boston, I would either take 287 to 95 or take the Saw Mill to 684 to 84 to the Mass Pike.

Realize that off hours on the Cross Bronx is a pretty small window.

Watch out for the speed traps in Connecticut.

Definitely go the Tappan Zee route if the George Washington bridge is backed up in NY.

If GW is clear, I take it. Lately I've then been going over the GW, then immediately taking the Henry Hudson Parkway North (for ~6 miles) to the Saw Mill parkway (for ~1.5 miles) to the Cross County Parkway (for ~3 miles) to the the Hutchinson River Parkway (for ~8 miles). (It's not as confusing as it must read!) From there get on 684 North (for ~30 miles) to 84 North (for ~100 miles) to the Mass Pike (Rt 90) West.

It's only slightly longer than the more traditional GW to 95N to 91N to 84N to 90W route but I find avoiding the congestion on 95 well worth it (in both time & aggravation).

Are you leaving the day before the game? Noon for a 4PM start won't cut it.
