We are thinking of taking a job in Coatesville, PA. Where is the best place to live within a reasonable distance. We are into the outdoors, woods, hiking and biking etc.
best regards

Moving this, but I would suggest you look west of Coatesville where it's a bit more rural. East, South and North of Coatesville is pretty much Philadelphia suburbs.

We lived in Thornadle (Coatesville PO) for 2 years and loved it - close to nature and enough land to have breathing room. Slightly further west is East Fallowfield (newer developments of homes) and also other Coatesville PO places that are not the city of Coatesville.

The area of Marshalltown heads south towards developments and farmland similar to East Fallowfield. North, more farmland and developments, can't remember the name...

Moving East you hit Downingtown which is also very nice...if you go north you hit Chester Springs which is also spread out...all very nice areas.

Glenmoore puts you near French Creek state park and it's recreation areas - this may be your best choice if outdoors is your #1 priorty.

Downingtown has a ton of shopping and restaurants so I would stay closer to it but Coatesville is really only about 20 minutes away if that...

How far of a commute is acceptable to you?
It will also depend on your price range. East of Coatesville can be more expensive.
If you want rural, you probably want to draw a north / south line through Coatesville and look on the West side. Basically, the West side of Chester county is still rural and definitely less expensive. French Creek state park is Northwest of Coatesville by about 30 minutes and offers many of the activites you mentioned.

Thanks for the information, we are taking a trip this week to check out the area.

30 - 45 mins would be a maximum commute time.

My sister lives outside of Coatesville. i think it's near Wagontown. nice area with lots of forrest and there's a huge lake by her house. i lived in downingtown awhile myself which is also a nice area.

anywhere inside the city of coatesville itself is a pit but a lot of the outside areas are really nice

I have lived in Valley Twp fo 5 years. Country setting but 5 minutes from downtown Coatesville. Nice and quiet neighborhood. I don't like the fact that recycling is scheduled everyother Tuesday while trash is Thursday. Also snow and ice are a winter factor. Have been snowed in when the rest of the world is moving. I can say I usually don't lose power or cable when everyone else is sitting in the dark. East Fallowfield Twp. is where I grew up also a nice country setting. Thorndale is more urban, if you want to call it that. Most of the inner city is not as bad as people think, but there are a few bad apples ruining a peaceful life for others.
