I believe in love as well as respect..I try to be a decent person and when I screw up, I'm always the first to say I'm sorry, this is what I did and I screwed up.

I try to give someone respect, it's hard because a lot of people in this world do not deserve it. I only give people so much, once you cross a line with me there is no going back and I want nothing to do with you.

Well, even though I have a liberal arts education, I tend to view most philosophy as glorified navel-gazing. However, this thread resonates with me, chiefly because we really do need to have a system of thought guide us lest we live rudderless lives.

I don't want to get embroiled in tedious semantics, but I felt the need to address the example in the OP. Love that hurts is not really love. For love is that which nurtures and sustains something outside of ourselves.

Back to the main question. My philosophy is rather simple. Keep the rational and emotional in balance to help understand which actions on my part will produce a higher good. Will my professional success exact a toll on my family? Will my political philosophy reap short-term rewards at the expense of the country's long-term health? How does one balance all the contradictions in life? For life is messy and does not conform to any particular philosophical school. To wish for such is to indulge in a pleasant dream, one that does no true and lasting good.

Ultimate seperation of my working self from my personal self. Both equally important.

Working self has an always adapting philosophy, built off its successors. Right now, it centers around yes/no->time.
Personal self has a philosophy centered around love/family/community.

The goal is value in all senses.
Happiness being a close (and sometimes non existent) second...(meaning it is a first lol)

The absolute, unchangeable truth of God's Word, the Holy Bible.

^^^Yes!

In mine eyes... even my "always says she is right" mom is flawed.
Only God is perfect.

I believe... to do a good deed, one would not even seek that "recognition" of that deed done.
It would be done out of that sole goodness of one's heart, and a deed done in "silence".
That would be that sincere good deed, not a "show" that one is good but that act true to the do gooder's heart.

God is like a mirror... thus that image in silence, and NOT the "talking" one.

-just venting.

Trying, every single day, to treat people with respect, dignity & compassion. Especially those I find are a little, um, hard to get along with. I also try to let the Holy Spirit guide me. After all, I have to be able to look at myself in the mirror every night.
