A friend also in the auto trade had finished a repair on a VW van when the owner said he was off to work at his regular job.

This job was standing at a intersection for 4 hrs...taking a lunch break and then proceed to another intersection for another 4 hrs. His procedure was on a rotating schedule so that he was not too obvious......made up to $150 on a good day.

I remember one time during Christmas week (outside a Grocery Mkt shopping center) a man at the curb with two small children and a sign.

People were stopping to give money etc. While sitting in my truck watching a car parked along side me...a woman jumped out.....ran over to them opening her purse.

Two weeks later I saw these two children in another Mkt with a woman. They were asking her to buy some small toy. Her response was......"you don't need any as you have plenty at your dads house".

If a person has something to sell or trade for my money no matter how pathetic it is I will give them money. Once in South America a guy told us he had kept an eye on our car while we were in a restaurant. It was customary to give money to the guy, even if it felt like we were being strong armed. In that kind of situation ,yes I would give money.

That's different...interesting way to describe it. I smile and give whatever I can afford at the time...usually 2$ to 4$ like you...or whatever comes out of my pocket..mostly loose change..loonies,toonies etc

Although I am not the poster to whom you were responding, I have a question for you, Non-creep. Did you used to post on City-Data under the user name Dragonborn?

I'm pretty hard and cold hearted about that. I usually just tell them I gave at the office.

Most of them are scam artist, druggie, or alcoholics.

Odd question, but no (confused). I only started using this forum a couple of months ago from an internet search.
