Why our modern society focuses on wealth and not a peace of mind?

My Views: Quest for materialism vs. your peace of mind
The greatest paradox observed is that man’s greatest dilemma is gaining material satisfaction at the expense of his greatest assets -
self satisfaction and inner peace.
Keeping up with this modern world demands a lot from us; we are expected to absorb and regurgitate information at a much faster rate than those before our time. The flight at which information is disseminated to us requires a genius in all of us to keep up. We have much more to think about and do. We have the computer, added with our electronic games, MP4s, telephone, education, investments and much more to do and think about each day. This is incomparable to how people had to live twenty (20) years ago. While we might be richer and much more exposed, we must admit that this is at the expense of our emotional and psychological well being. No one has measured the loss to us of what it means to be successful in these modern times. For many, being a prisoner in their homes is what quantifies success!

Why our modern society focuses on wealth and not a peace of mind?

Because it is traders civilization.
As there are 4 types of humans - doers, traders, thinkers, and knowers - so there are 4 types of civilizations. They go in great cycles lasting approximately 12 000 years each civilization. This particular one is the last, traders, civilization, in the great cycle of the last four.

maybe it's because modern society has bought into the belief that you need wealth for peace of mind..some people actually believe that without material possessions they can't be content, or happy...It might have something to do with the ridiculous notion that a mans/woman's worth in society is dependent on how many material possessions they own...to some, that is everything...maybe that's got something to do with the many unhappy people in modern societies...they're allowing expectations they might not make to dictate whether they can have peace within or not.

Mine is just according to my opinion. Most of problems that arise have something to do with money such as funds in government, education, health, food supply, country's debt. So humanly solution is inviting investors to create business and collecting taxes. Hence, the focus of modern society is on wealth. Peace of mind can be achieved when you solve problem.

Money won't make an unhappy person happy, but having it will prevent a happy person from becoming unhappy.

Because we live in a capitalistic society filled with material symbols and indoctrination. Many are groomed (through schools, parents, nationalism, corporatism) to follow the societal doctrine without question, but this does not provide peace of mind, as commonly accepted doctrine can create very immoral results and our subconscious feels this.

This is why it is important to go through life always asking "Why?"

Some personalities (evolved from experience, birthright, parents, nationality, media access, and less indoctrination) are perhaps more mentally equipped to perform in a wealth-focused/capitalistic competitive environment without losing peace of mind. One may have peace of mind with or without wealth, and may even treat wealth attainment as a fun game. Many (if not most) others do not have this peace of mind due to the circumstances of their upbringing, the unavailability of resources to them, and their inability to question/go against societal doctrine.

Who is to say that wealth and peace of mind cannot exist together? They can. Some people are able to handle the load of information coming in and are able to use it for their benefit, though probably not at the same time as the OP tries to imply.

If that is the observation average people make, then perhaps they believe they have to do the same thing to gain wealth, and will attempt to copy this behavior. There is nothing is wrong with that but not everyone is cut out for this path. Is it possible that many people attempt to gain monetary wealth without a plan, a vision, or resources? I find it interesting, and probably me alone, that I think it is necessary to have resources before you can gain monetary wealth.

Because our "modern society" is not the natural evolution of humanity and civilization. Our "modern society" is an artificial construct, created and imposed upon us by Corporacy, a protected class of the wealthy, who make all the rules and regulate modern society in their self-interest.

For me, peace of mind is about supporting my family.
Not fancy cars.
That still takes money. So, yeah. I care about money. For the peace of mind.
