I would say more understanding then wisdom. Wisdom is one of those funny notions that alludes me. My brother is one of the most common sense fellows I know, not all "that bright", but when it comes to life's choices he is very wise Always has been. I will never be as wise as him. But when I apply a list of traits to wise versus what is said by the wise I find the issue of pheromones/visual ques coming up.
Although it is a regrettable fact that many people are asleep until suffering awakens them, it is entirely possible to be awakened by other things, and I'd never suggest that suffering is ennobling other than incidentally.

I concur. Humans commonly experience suffering to gain wisdom.
I prefer the path of least resistance to evolve my wisdom. Don't we all?
Yes and no? Each one of us might experience the same situation similarly yet distinctly differently. Can the facets of experiencing experience itself be explored and recognized without any effort at all? Hardly, and yet some might not find it so hard, especially with practice. Maybe as necessity is the mother of invention, the catalyst for wisdom might require some cultivated muck from which continual blossoming can occur?
