Surely if aliens exist on other planets, they must have cinema and universities too - what are your thoughts?

I think if there are aliens out there.. they are far superior to us foolish humans, and that's why they stay away from this toxic earth.
I think we humans could be the throw-aways from another race.
Maybe they even visit us occasionally to laugh at us.....or look in wonder at the destruction we carry out on the very planet we need to survive.

I think these superior races of life would have far, far easier and more available ways of gaining any knowledge they desire, than having to go to a university or cinema.
Maybe what we'd call super advanced "technology" if we even could dream of it.

You are assuming they are carbon-based life forms that evolved in a very similar environment. Star Trek posited that most life in the universe is humanoid, the better to save production budgets, but it's more likely that we would not recognize alien life if we tripped over it. Indeed, a couple of well regarded Trek episodes actually touched on this ... The Devil in the Dark and the similar Home Soil, in which the aliens are crystalline structures whose view of us humans is that we are "very ugly bags of mostly water".

So, no, probably not.

On other planets they have sci-fi conventions where everybody dresses up like humans.

Assuming they don't have digitally-augmented brains (i.e. a purely biological entity)

Undoubtedly they have education, as I can't imagine any animal having quantum physics being intuitive to their toddlers (to use Neil deGrasse Tyson's words).

Cinema (or any other kind of cultural expression) - that's a different story. We simply have no way of knowing an alien's psychology. For all we know, we may be the only species to "do" entertainment of any sort, let alone cinema.

If there are aliens on other planets that are humanoids, they too must have nations and news media; and internet forums (this very thread?), and their own Wrestlemania PPV's, and left wing vs right wing political spectrums.

Just a life form that looks like a homo sapien. The case being made by myself is that because life that looks like homo sapiens existing elsewhere is an absolute certainty, it's an absolute certainty that the reality of the internet, and of shared cinematic universes, and of sports and universities and theme parks and national histories will exist on other planets.

CNN and Google will exist on other planets, as will sites just like this, and actors and actresses auditioning for movies and tv shows.

I don't believe that "life that looks like homo sapiens existing elsewhere is an absolute certainty"...not at all.

They don't necessarily have movies, videogames, or universities, but one thing is certain: they have ways to entertain themselves and to keep themselves occupied, just like we do. Their "ways" may be more advanced, or perhaps too different, but entertainment is definitely a thing, even for the gods : p.
