I have a very high IQ and don't care about sports at all. I don't even own a TV. I just prefer to be out living life and doing things rather than sitting in front of a box watching someone else do things
Explain.
Exactly what type of 'things' are you out there doing?
At a casual, convivial chat, I'd immediately agree.
Taking this more seriously... I know that some people regard certain sports as having a kind of beauty akin to art. But in general, I would agree that people with a lively intelligence and curiosity would probably prefer leisure activities that involve learning something (e.g. reading), enjoying something that is considered "cultural" (e.g. going to the opera), or participating in something directly rather than watching (e.g. going to a dinner party).
I think signaling your perception of your own intelligence and the intelligence of others based on entertainment preferences is not only a sign of lacking intelligence, but also hubris and a host of other personality defects.

All spazzes hate sports. Some smart people are spazzes. Therefore all smart people hate sports.
6th grade logic tells you the above is false.
Sports are a form of entertainment that let us compete against each other as well as form tribes to band together against each other. Both are basic primal human traits.
I just can't get that interested in the lives of ego-maniacal, money-chasing athletes posing as role models. The idea of spending time worshiping such people has no appeal. I'll watch a random interesting play but following teams as a pastime seems unintelligent when there are far more pressing issues in the world.
Fitness and doing one's own sport is understandable, but the popularity of pro sports speaks to the shallowness of people who bask in reflected glory.
Is not watching sports a sign of true intelligence?
To equate intelligence with entertainment choices made is an unintelligent observation IMO. I may not be brilliant like others profess to be (speaking multiple languages, went to Harvard, etc), but I am a CPA which means some level of intelligence. I love sports, most especially the NFL. But I follow all sports and enjoy it. I could say watching most of the crap on TV is a sign of being unintelligent (because I consider most TV shows garbage).
Therefore, this thread is 100x more of a sign of intelligence level than watching sports is.
Watching sports is a punchline at best.......I will watch baseball on occasion but honestly I fall asleep often and am usually thrilled when I wake up 2-3 innings later and the score is the same (meaning I missed NOTHING)!
I did watch the whole Superbowl for the first time this year.......only because I was at a friends new house and I couldn't really leave!
