Everyone (generally) is a nihilist today, even those who haven't heard the word. It has become so mainstream that nearly every American regardless of class follows its creed.

Everything is subjective, instant gratification, we are all perfect the way we are, etc. are all centered around the idea that nothing matters.

'Culture/Literature? What literature, art is subjective, nothing matters' screams the nihilist.

Corporate leaders, humanitarians, libertarians, communists, homeless people, middle class, young, old, they have all bought into the idea that the only thing that matters is the immediate satisfaction of the greatest number of people.

Yes, religion is by its nature anti-nihilist but even there it has become more about fashion than substance.

It is a great evil that this personal philosophy has become so wide spread, it is dedicated to destroying all beauty and purpose in the world.

Nihilism calls for pacifism, hedonism, and empty head morons with no desires. Yet now it is considered intelligent and anyone who believes in anything be it culture, war, art, literature, money, power, etc. is derided for offending people.

Are you a nihilist, is your family a nihilist? If the answer is no that means yes because everyone nowadays is a nihilist and its wrecks my heart beyond belief.

Well since you've apparently already made up your mind
that everyone is a nihilist, why even bother to ask?

Also - how we perceive the world says more about
ourselves than it does about the world, providing a
great opportunity for self-discovery.

The point was that most nihilists reject nihilism which is the central contradiction to the belief.

Everyone's a nihilist? That's an extreme claim to make with no proof. There's a difference between realizing that there's no objective meaning to life and people have to create their own meaning for themselves, and complete lack of any meaning whatsoever.

I think you are confusing post modernism with nihilism.

Post modernist philosophy - everything is subjective, everyone has their own truth and that matters and should be respected

Nihilistic philosophy - knowledge is not real, nobody's opinion matters, nothing matters.

There aren't many nihilists around today. There are a lot of post modernists.

Zen is so essentially nihilistic at least in my opinion.

Post modernism has led to nihilism. It is like a gateway drug.

People have so little self-worth the vapid individualism has turned into nothingness.

I see alot of anger, but not alot of attempts to change minds, or debate, which is the point of a forum. What do you believe in then? If we are wrong, what can you say to justify your way of thinking and get us to come around to your beliefs about how to approach the world and our lives?

Its simple, I support society. Culture and beauty.

Americans by and large believe in themselves. And yet somehow they have so little self-worth and are constantly trying to pursue the image of someone else.

All I ask is that people accept objective quality in beauty and stop trying to universalize every aspect of our country.

We are doomed elsewise.

Post modernism is the opposite of nihilism in some ways. It is not a gateway drug.

Post modernism - Everybody's opinion matters.

Nihilism - Nobody's opinion matters.

Anyway, you are making some laughable claims like arguing that the subjectivity of beauty is nihilistic. Plenty of philosophical doctrines argue that beauty is subjective - for example transcendental idealism of Kant that is probably the most influential philosophy of the modern western world.
