My fam and I will be in Phoenix in 5 hours..what part of Phoenix is a good place to stay? Looking for safe with lots of activities and food options nearby. Was thinking downtown but not being from the area i'm hesitant because some cities' downtowns are nice while others are crime ridden crapholes...any input would be appreciated...thanks in advance!

If I can generalize, Scottsdale or Tempe area. Downtown is not dangerous but it is pretty dead, especially weekends. The resort area is in Scottsdale - best hotels, most food and shopping. Also the priciest, but this time of year is a relative bargain.

They have some awesome pools at the resorts. The best is at Arizona Grand in Ahwatukee (Phoenix) about 20 mins from airport. If you go there, be sure to go check out Rustler's Rooste, a restaurant at the resort.
