HI~ I live in a small town in TN and my husband is transferring to Phoenix. He will be traveling throughout the area for work. Is there an area that has less heavy traffic and small town feel and very low crime within 50 miles of Phx?

You might have a hard time finding that. Mod Cut: Baiting. You could probably find a gated community, though.

There isnt a small town feel in the valley. The Valley blends together from on city to another. You cant even tell when you go thru another city. It's all the same house, strip malls, store.

Wickenburg--not sure how many miles outside of Phoenix, 30-40 miles? Someone else may know. About an hour away.It might be what you're looking for--has a downtown and is slower than Phoenix. Lots of horses and is more relaxed than Phoenix.

You really need to make a trip out first to look at areas and see what feels good to you.

From what you said, in the SE valley you might consider Gilbert or Queen Creek. THey are also green compared to most of the valley. Still lots of agricultural areas. I don't know the vibe in the W Valley around areas like Goodyear or Buckeye. It is a big metro area, but there are still pockets towns you might like. Look at the nighboring "towns" and read their city-data profiles.

Add Casa Grande to your list - it is removed from the "connected grid" of all the cities in phoenix proper byt the Gila River Indian Reservation, but is only 40 miles to downtown. Currently 50K population full time and another 20K come in for the winter only. We are big enough to have everything, but still smaller (and feels smaller still since it is not connected with the rest of the cities). Lots of farming still in town, they have an old town downtown area with farmers markets etc....

P S - for 1200.00 a month you could get a VERY nice house to rent...and BUY (should you desire) for less payment than that a month very easily down here.
