My wife and I have looked around the west valley of Phoenix and like it very much. We stayed at Pebble Creek area for a couple of days and liked it but the noise from the airforce base there was too much.

We are now looking at the Vistancia. Does anyone have input on the airbase noise level in that area.

Thanks

There is going to be airplane noise most places in the valley. Besides Luke, there is Sky Harbor (6th busiest airport), Deer Valley (24th busiest airport), Gateway (busiest non-FAA airport), Chandler (3rd busiest non-FAA airport), Falcon Field, Scottsdale, Glendale and Goodyear (as well as many smaller airports). There are lots of airplanes all over the valley.
Vistancia, I believe (although I don't live there) is pretty close to a departure and arrival route into and out of Luke AFB, so you are likely to hear some noise from the base. I'm not real sure how much, though.
Estrella in Goodyear doesn't have much airplane noise for the most part, yet you still here them from time-to-time.

We get the Luke jets but at a higher altitude. They are still LOUD. Also once in a while you see some 747 taking off over us that is flying so low it looks like it is going to land in the lake. The most annoying ones are the sightseers who fly round and round looking at things. I give them the finger, but I don't think they see me.

I think it's just one departure route from Luke that goes over Estrella. Most of the F16 departures go to the west of the neighborhood. Most of the arrivals are to the west, as well. But, yeah, when they fly over, you can surely hear them.

That would be from Goodyear airport, and those are somewhat rare, but do happen.

Yes, but I don't mind them too much.

Waiting for MotleyCrew to give better feedback.

Since I don't live in Pebble Creek I cannot compare. But when we lived in the central Peoria, I did not notice any planes. But yes in Vistancia/North Peoria the F-16s are there - flight training exercise but I don't believe it is takeoff/landing. Sometimes they fly quite low - I love to see them. Usually 2 or 3 of them. And I think they do fly at night (I think as late as 10pm?). But they don't bother us/my family (but will be different to others). Hardly hear them when in the house but I can see/hear them when in the yard. I don't think that it is that frequent like an airport and maybe its a seasonal thing also - not their primary training path (???)

Not sure how much it will change in the future but thankfully the F-35s may be coming as they phase out the F-16s. (needed for the local economy). And sometimes I was told that we have small planes flying here from the Deer Valley flight training school. Again I can occasionally hear them when I am in the yard - practising "failing engines" in day time only. (Just a few days ago - one small plane crashed and hit warehouse at the Deer Valley airport - saw lots of activities on my way to work)

Vistancia and Trilogy have message board forums that you can check/join for more info.

Just moved to Vistancia.

I notice Luke AFB traffic more in the beginning of the week. Working at home during the week, I seem to hear it Monday and Tuesday more than any other day. And every night, I sit out on my upper deck and Luke AFB noise is not an issue.

Sky harbor traffic is too high to make lots of noise. Sometimes the coyotes make more noise.

Just as a side note, when we first moved here, about 4 jets flew in formation one night and lit up their afterburners (I guess that's what they do). Although it was loud, it was a sight I'll never forget! Haven't seen them do that since then.

We live up the hill in Estrella Mountain Ranch and we barely ever hear anything from Luke. We love it up here. Mod Cut: No recommendations with less than 10 posts, no advertising.
