We are considering retiring in Phoenix soon. We love the desert and heat but thought a small pool would be nice... for both cooling off and as a landscape feature. What can we expect to pay to have one installed? How about operating costs... solar, gas heater, pumps, chemicals, etc? Salt water or Chlorine? I am handy and know about the maintenance and we both like to putter in the yard so I'm not afraid of that part of ownership.
Thanks! |

You can find a few threads on this subject, just do a search. But, from what I have learned is that they range from $30-50k.

Flynpig, not sure how small of a pool you desire, but the competition between pool companies here is fierce and everyone is always having specials. Right now someone on TV is advertising pools starting at 16K (will have to see who that is when I see the commercial again). You will always find a great deal when shopping around for one here. We have an upgraded salt water pool, custom shape/design with a jacuzzi and a waterfall and ours cost 43K. We pay the pool guy $70/mo to take care of the chemicals. We have a robot that cleans the bottom so he doesn't need to take care of that.

My neighbor just got her pool for 15,000. It is a chemical free pool. Looks real nice. Shasta pools did it very quickly. Not much to buy for it. Looks pretty worry free for now.

Chemical free? Sounds nice! Are all pools in AZ built in-ground?

The only ones that I have personally seen above ground in Phoenix are the ones on the Indian Reservations ... and in far-off rural areas.

yes. when the ambient air temp is 115 that mean the water in an above ground pool will be about the same temp if in direct sun.

$15,000 will get you a hole in the ground. That's like your basic model car with no features. If you want any kind of decent filtration system, look to spend $25,000 and up.

$16,000, that's for digging the hole on an average size pool. By the time you realistically add all the necessary goodies and amenities you'll still be in, at least, the $35,000 range. Anything cheaper would be in the Yugo class and not last long with many problems down the line.
Previous threads on this subject will prove this out. |

The avaerage pool price in Phx is around $35,000. Spas add another $12,000 with heater. That can get you an automated pool that cleans itself. Make sure you get a lifetime warranty on your plumbing.
