Yeah, I don't really know why I was told to avoid Ahwatukee, it seemed nice when I went there. I was also only there once, though, so I don't know! When my husband and I decided to start looking at homes, a close friend of mine who lives in the valley goes "Just DO NOT move to Ahwatukee!" lol Go figure!

Someone in the west valley was warning you about Ahwatukee? That's interesting. Ahwatukee has crime issues but so does everywhere else. They told you to avoid Ahwatukee and pick Laveen? A close friend said this? I'd be mad at them.

Those perceived "nicer" areas -- which for some reason is defined as those areas of new homes -- are more prone to home invasions. My current neighborhood in Central Phoenix has more than its fair share of graffiti and the occasional burglary. We used to live in North Scottsdale, which is light on crime save for the car break-ins, but frankly DH and I got bored up there.

Personally, I would go with Laveen. I know some would disagree, largely it seems because the area is close to the abject brown people neighborhoods (please note my sarcasm). Surprise is *really* far, and I've done that drive in rush hour -- I think next time I will just put a gun to my head.

Something to consider, that nobody will mention about Surprise, is that most of town is directly under the flight path for Luke Air Force Base. A family friend has a very nice home up there, but one evening on their patio listening to fighter jets was enough for me.

That is one of the reasons that i wanted to live in Surprise. I am from an area in California that has a Naval air base. I love it. Yes when you buy the builder is required to inform you that you live under the flight path/ fly over area for Luke. That just makes me feel at home. Minus the ocean, and if you take away the 3 months of high heat, Surprise reminds me of where I came from. And most people in Sothern California commute.

from the police after we all called them out from the gunshots and helicopters circling our area on halloween night.
from the police a few weeks ago after 3 of my neighbors got their cars stolen right out of their driveways.
and this is only what i've gleaned from the police...i won't mention our discussions at the pta meetings, the lcc meetings, at church or simply being a part of the community and discussing things with our fellow citizens.

i don't need written statistics because they are delayed and i am right here.
and, i assume, you are, too...no need to defend your city.
like i said...enjoy!
if you like it, i love it...happy people make for a happy environment. however, i'm no slouch when it comes to laveen. i am very much involved. so when i see you at the lcc meeting, say "hi!".

i believe everyone has a right to be informed.
you know as well as i do that asking people who actually reside in the city can give you more information that written statistics.
that's why you started this thread in the first place. you could have easily gone to the 'net to get info about moving here but you chose to ask us.
just because you don't like what you've read doesn't make it not true.
we have no reason to lie.
u dont need to give specfics...but were in laveen is this crime happening?

Wasn't there a murder in Laveen this past weekend. In one of the better neighborhoods?

as ibarrio stated, this is happening in the not-at-all-shabby area. my pastor lives in the subdivision of the murderS that happened this weekend. there were two boys shot in the head at a party given at the house of the one boy...his mother was there. a fight broke out and the boy was trying to stop it. the boy that killed them attends chavez and has yet to be arrested. everyone knows him and this is being talked about in the school. i spoke with one of the girls and she couldn't get over how the "blood smelled", for she saw the boy lying there with his head opened.

these murders do not include the ones on halloween night.

by the way, the aforementioned incident was around 72nd ave south of baseline.

Criminals will always prey on something better then what they have. If you live in a nice area that borders and high crime area....you can count on trouble working it's way into your area. I'll never forget a conversation I had with a mexican co-worker once that was from Guadalupe. He told me that he hardly ever stole from his neighborhood because no one had anything nice. They would always go over to the Pepperwood subdivision which is just south of Kiwanis Park. The pickins were always better there.

Oh, I believe you that Surprise is safer. No question. It's just not for me.
