Default Sun Screens

I was hoping to get some info on sunscreens here. I am moving in three weeks and my new home does not have them. Do I need them on all of my windows and how expensive are they? I read that they are very good at energy savings.

You mostly need sunscreens on windows facing west and east. Try to google something like "arizona residential sun screens" for more info.

Thumbs up Good investment

I had sunscreens for many years now and they have been great energy savers, well worth the costs. Several years ago we even added another on the south side of the house for a bedroom that always seemed too hot. After it was installed, you could notice the difference. Unbelievable – they are worth the money. We had the originally on the east and west side but now the south has them as well.

There is a very good company in Glendale that makes and installs them, but I can’t remember the name of it. They’ve been there for years doing business and have a great reputation. I only remember that they were just south of Glendale Ave.

Thanks for the replys. My house is oriented north-south so should I just get the screens on the east and west windows to start with?

I wouldn't worry about it until you live there and see if it's something you really need. You may not have any rooms that have direct sunlight, especially since most homes are built right on top of the next. Getting shades should be the least of your worries about moving to a new house and new area.

Suncreens are great along with e-windows. You can save a bundle and your investment will pay off within the first year.
In AZ no matter how your home sits, this time of the year, as well as other times certain windows will always get some hot sunlight beating in it.
Even if you have a north/south location you still will get hot beating sun in the afternoons comming into the house from the NW.
We installed e-windows, along with roll up Cooleroo shade screens, and have experienced a 50% savings so far.

Are you kidding? This is a priority toward the top of your list!! I have a 3300 sq ft, two story home, and my electric bill tops out at just over $200 in the summer. Thermostat is at 78 degrees. I easily save over $100 monthly in the months from May-September. Multiply that by a few years and soon your investment will pay off.

Sunscreens or window film? We went with the film instead of the screens. It is just a matter of choice. I am not sure which is better, but it is another choice.

My house actually has both on the westside. The previous owners had it all done to save money.

We have screens on our rental home and LOVE them!!! Not only do they keep the home cool, but we have much more privacy from our way-too-close neighbors (nobody has homes as scrunched together as phoenix!)
