I still think that reminders like this do no harm and perhaps might save a life.

I can't remember any cold weather stories from back home. I think the difference is that in cold weather the car offers some shelter whereas in hot weather it acts as an oven.
That's just stupid! I tried giving you a couple of points, but I have to spread it around first! I liked your honesty, it gave me a different perspective to try to understand how someone can leave thier baby in the car.

When we had babies car seats were still not manditory so many new moms were not used to them. We bought one and we always kept them in the front next to the driver (now a bad idea). We had a few horror stories of mom's leaving the car seat on top of the car, getting in and taking off. Baby's were killed or seriously injured. We are far more busy today than we were 26 years ago. Always on the cell phone while driving, busy going to work, meetings etc. It just about takes two working to buy a house now. I understand the stress, but leaving a baby in the car to me is unforgivable. Parents really need to set their priorities and I see that becoming less and less an option for some.

I agree with what you are saying. I just feel that if we are going to take the time to judge someone, save that for someone who is malicious, not heartbroken.

Unbelievable, I'm still puzzled at how this guy managed to make the mistake that's impossible to make, by leaving his child in the car!

It’s going to be HOT in Az for several months yet, as well as many other locations in the country. So this type of issue isn’t going away soon. One of the “best ideas” that I heard was for parents to have a little stuffed doll or animal type toy inside the car whenever you took the child with you. When the child was in their carseat in the back of the car, you put the stuffed doll toy in the front seat with you or near you to help remind you that your child is in the back. I believe it’s the law that carseats have to be in the back of the car whenever possible.

It’s a fairly good reminder to busy parents that they have a little one in the back seat! There are laws but can you punish parents who have lost their a little child because of their mistake? It’s a hard one.

Ps….. I just remembered years ago seeing signs that people put in the back window saying “baby on board”. Why not have one for the inside of the car near the dashboard as a reminder?

A parent forgetting their child being in the backseat??? I don't think that is acceptable. Further more, a person with their mind out there that bad should not be driving with a kid on board period!!

Then again, I have seen women with 2-3 kids in the back of their SUV/Van run a redlight at 50+mph! (I was making a left turn and she crossed the red light from the opposite direction and barely noticed what she did as she almost hit me but thank god I sensed and stopped ahead).
I think those parent deserve the same leash type thing that some parent use for their hyper kids who like to wander off.

Sheesh... Yet another one!
Just caught a blurb on the news.

Not a lot of details. But this time it was the 33 year old stepgrandmother who locked a 15 month old boy in a car. Only from what I caught they figure he was in the car for approx. 5 hours before someone noticed him and called police.

Now that one I say file charges immediately. Absolutely no excuse for leaving a 15 month old unattended for 5 hours anywhere, and in a car in 100 degree temps? What is wrong with some people? Can you imagine the terror that child must have experienced?

So very sad!

Edited to add: just found an online article about this one. The woman told police she forgot the child was in the car, she was inside a freinds' house, asleep. The police call came in around 6pm

Axiom, I think that was somewhere in Oregon. (I'm from the NW and read their news everyday.)

I just don't get it either. How can you forget a kid in your car? I could only wish mine were ever that quiet.
