Hello, I'm 22 years old, female, and I'm considering moving to Phoenix for a job in one month.

The catch is that I don't have a car, so I'll be relying on public transit or walking/biking to work. Also, I'm moving on a budget so I'm trying to find either a roommate or an inexpensive studio/1 BR.

I'm looking at renting an apartment at the Presidio at South Mountain (13229 South 48th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85044). It is within walking/biking distance of work and the rent seems reasonable.

Can anyone tell me about the neighborhood? Is it safe for me to walk around at night, and what type of entertainment is nearby?

Thank you!

That area of Phoenix is called Ahwatukee and is a great area to live in. I use to live about a half mile from those apartments. You'll be within walking/biking distance to plenty of shopping (grocery, target, best buy, petco, craft stores, and more) and entertainment (there are bars, a couple of clubs, restaurants, and the movie theater nearby). Its also right by a park.

Thank you for the response!! What would you say the demographics of Ahwatukee consist of? I'm not going to have time to extensively check out the area when I get there, so I'm going to be beelining, so to speak, to specific apartments. Do you have any recommendations?

Don't pay attention to this person. They obviously have no clue. There is no way this area can be considered remotely bad.

Ahwatukee is pretty much middle to upper class. Mostly white.

I lived at Sierra Foothills apartments which are about a half mile or so west of address you gave. There are quite a few apartment complexes right in that immediate area that you should be able to visit.

LOL, if that's the case then the whole metro area is a dump.

Do check apartments ratings n reviews on google before you move in.
Ahwatukee is a good area.

48th St and Warner is the older part of Ahwatukee, but it is no where near a dump. It is a nice middle class area, and you will be fine.

I'm fairly young, will it be conducive to meeting people and going out? Nightlife? Any apartment suggestions?? I appreciate all of your input!
