I am trying to help my Mom find a place to live in Surprise as that's where her friends are going to be moving to and she wants to join them. In our search we have noticed that the prices of rentals are lower east of the 60, and get a bit higher on the other side of the 60 and get much higher towards the 303 and even higher past that. Is there some activity or problems around the 60 or directly west of it that she should be aware of? There seems to be a lot of shopping around the 60 and I thought it would be nice for her to be close to that but not if there are some issues.

Any information is helpful! Thanks in advance.

60, otherwise known as Grand Avenue, is the one of the busiest roads in the Valley. East of that road, is El Mirage, and is a bad town. I used to live in the never part of El Mirage, which still sucks, and the people called it "Little Mexico."
Out west, you have newer surprise, and it is a very very nice suburb city.

Just take a drive around the area. It's not hard to distinguish between the good and bad parts. Staying West of Litchfield road will give you a good buffer.

My thanks to both of you as what you have posted is very helpful! I will help her look west of Litchfield. I admit that it is easy to tell in some areas what's not so nice, but it's been a while since we've both been there and my memory is fuzzy and things seem to have changed somewhat since from what I was told (due to R.E. Bust).
