The chief of surgery at Chandler Regional Hospital when I last checked is hispanic. He just invented a new surgery! There are so many respected legal immigrants here with white spouses that it is really funny you asked. Most of the culture here is based on Mexican tradition.

Cool well I used to live in Tempe but it was 10 years ago, so I couldn't remember how the lifestyle was out there. I just remember it being a very unique and appealing city.
I appreciate all the responses, you have laid to rest some of my concerns.

It is definately "unique" but as far as appealing...that's a personal view.

I'm guessing you mean that sarcastically, because it isn't even 50/50.

It is more like 75% White for most of Arizona.
Scottsdale leads the nine cities with 91% white population. Gilbert is second with 85%. The lowest white population is in Tucson with 65%, followed by Phoenix with 74%
However it does appear that Latins are moving in at a much faster rate...~40% since 2000 vs ~20% White.

Rockx,
The racism I see is mostly centered around Spanish-only speaking folks. I know so many Latin people, here and elsewhere, who are extremely ambitious and successful, yet still encounter some racism every week.
Unless you have designs on a white-bread community, (Paradise Valley or N. Scottsdale??), I can't imagine any significant problems from neighbors, servicepeople, etc.
If anything, depending on where you live, you will get more strange looks for speaking English and being white, than your wife will.

We have decided not to move to Arizona.
After considering the choices, comments from friends and around the internet boards. It just sounds like the same epidemic that is in the SouthEast. Illegals and the companies that hire them, are making people racist towards well educated Mexican-Americans.
So we are moving back to a diverse big city, more tolerant and not so easy to generalize.
San Francisco or NYC are our choices...I don't feel like having my child grow up around racism and unrest.

I would not choose to expose my children to some of the things that go on in San Fran either. Try N.Y. Seriously, San Fran is a septic pit. Sorry you feel the way you do about Phoenix, we don't see issues other than those with illegals.
