I got caught in the hail storm a couple weeks ago while I was on i10. My car looks like a big golf ball on wheels now, and I'm not sure whether it's going to be worth getting repaired or just take the insurance companies check and use it to buy a new car.

Those of you who have had your cars inspected, what did the insurance company offer you? I don't want to get lowballed but I'm hearing anywhere from $3000-4000. My appointment with the adjuster is in Friday... gettin kinda nervous!

Ah, as did I! My car is a wreck. I took my car to my insurance guy the other day. (It was actually a really strange meeting, he didn't really say much, just counted, took pictures and wrote me a check.) But I got just shy of $2,000. And I have a $500 deductible. I thought it was strange that he didn't make an offer and just handed me a check. I don't know if it's because they have just had so many claims for it or what. I haven't taken it anywhere to get the work appraised yet. But hopefully that will cover it. I'm a little worried.

If your vehicle is deemed repairable, might as well get it fixed. The shop is required to get it back to pre-accident condition, especially if you use a shop recommended by your insurance company. And the damage is just cosmetic so no worries of something mechanical being missed. The initial check that the appraiser issues is not a settlement check. Its the estimate of damages as they appear. Go to the shop, give them the estimate, and let them fix the vehicle. If they incur additional costs, they would discuss that with the original appraiser, who will then pay the shop for the additional costs.

If its deemed a total loss, well, not much you can do there.
