Hello,
I have been seeing a lot of homes that list their water coming from a private company. Should that scare me?

What is the average monthly water bill for basic usage and a few potted plants?
(I don't plan on having a fake lawn)

Also what are the cost differences between getting city water vs private?

My husband keeps asking me about the water and I need some info.
Any help appreciated!
Thanks

I think people are using a filtered system or bottled water. So that wouldn't be something else. My water bill also includes trash pickup services and something else, but I forget what that is. We pay about $55/month total. It was higher when we used to water our lawns. Then we also pay for bottled water and pay about $5 a week or so at the store.

Rereading your post, I do remember my last house had a private company that we paid for services (instead of the city). It was a totally little tiny house with one person who answered the phone. This was in n. peoria in the Fletcher Heights subdivision. I couldn't believe this place was in existence. But everything worked out fine with us, so you shouldn't worry. Also, it cost about the same (of course minus the trash, ect) about $25/month.

Ours was about the same in the winter when we didn't water the lawn as much, around $55. Now it's around $100 with watering the lawn 45 minutes each day.

Our front yard is rock with a few desert plants that need to be watered once a month. Our back yard is small with grass and a small garden. In the winter months our water bill is around 40 and in the summer it can get over 100 a month.

Water rates vary throughout the area. Most cities have their own water company and the rates differ with each one. Many rural areas are with private water companies which are generally higher in their rates.
Water rates can have a trash pickup fee added on also.
So to determine exactly what you're looking for you need to narrow your inquiry down to a specific area. Most cities/water companies have their own web site also. So you may google anyone of them and check out their rates and services.
