Its not the weather you live with.
Its not the scenery you will with.
It is the PEOPLE -
This is exactly my opinion. I would NEVER move to or from a city because of sunsets or heat/snow (unless health dictated it). Some of the dirtiest, most 3rd world places have the most beautiful natural scenery.
Phoenix is a young metropolis and has lots of maturing to do. But I am trying to find the good things about here, and sometimes you have to seek out the nice people and places. But, I'll take rainy or snowy anyday in exchange for job growth, good education, culture, and a strong community feel.
The sun is far away, the neighbors are right next to you.

If anyone likes the summer heat in Phoenix they might well have mental
problems. I lived there for years only because I had a good job. When
the job went so did I. For me the winters were totally different and I loved
things in Phoenix but who wants to live anyplace where you have to stay inside for half a year? I just cannot figure that one out. Oh I forgot everyone has a big air conditioner. Well I had to pay to use mine and it
got expensive. As much as I like the Northeast I wouldn't want to live
there in the bad winters. There are other places that offer moderate climates
both in winter and summer. Also Phoenix is not a big metroplis or cosmo in
any shape or form. It's just a big suburban spraw. There are lots of new
office buildings in the area but not much of a downtown like Chicago or
San Francisco or Seattle for that matter. It's still growing for some reason
but most of my friends who are still living there because of their jobs hope
their day will come so they can leave for greener pastures.

I like the heat. It keeps people away. Without it, we'd be overrun like L.A.
PS - if you don't like it, there are highways going off in all directions... get on one and keep going. Eventually you'll find a place you like. Well, probably not... but you will find something else to complain about.

I actually spent more time outside in the Summer in my swimming pool. It didn't bother me to sit out on my covered patio and then take a dip when I got hot, granted the temp in my pool was over 90 degrees but it still felt good to me.

as of the other days news we were at 21 days of 110 and above. the record is 27 days. i think this will be the future norm for this area.

Why can't Grimey be entitled to an opinion? Everyone else gets to post rude comments on this thread. Grimey's actually offered something constructive, which is a step in the right direction! It's about time someone wrote with some truth like Grimey, because all I've seen is a bunch of half truths. I wish I could tell you how many times I've heard someone say "Where I come from, we do things better than in Phoenix." Yet for some reason the same complainer takes no responsibility for moving here in the first place. It was like they were forced to move. AMAZING!

I take issue with your attitude about being friendly. I am from Michigan and I, too, love my privacy. It is just taken to the extreme here. Locals here act like Manhattanite snobs who are too good to talk to anyone.
Block walls are an ASSET? When I noticed that every home I looked at with my realtor had an ugly, grey wall, I told her that I want that torn out to be replaced by pickets or even chain link. She almost scolded me and said it would de-value my home.
Why can't neighbors talk to eachother? You don't have to be buddies or divulge personal info. A friendly hello (without the snide comment to your girlfriend afterwards) never hurt anyone.
It's as if we don't trust anyone anymore. Frankly, I knew everyone on my street in Michigan. I did NOT know their personal lives but if there was ever trouble or I needed a helping hand, we helped eachother out.
What has happened to civility?

Kudos for cutting through the BS and political correctness.
Honest, harsh--but unoffensive, comments are welcomed.

opinions are fine and welcome, no need rude in any case, even if others are, dumb reason to justifly rudeness, because other people have been.
