i guess its true misery loves company.
but to those of us that did grow up in the midwest, i can tell you it is not all its cracked up to be. i have lived in cleveland, ohio for almost 18 years, and i can tell you it really sucks. it took me going to an urban university downtown and realizing how much the city lacks.
people in the midwest are not friendly like everyone on here says they are. you must be living in a small town or something.
and as far as racism, i hear that phoenix is more open minded when it comes to mixed couples than most cities. i am black and my boyfriend is white, and we get looks big time in cleveland from the white and black people that live here. i really could care less, but i am an observant person and i pay attention to the way people treat each other. i also lived in the chicago metro area, western suburbs that has a high percentage of mexican immigrants, and i can say that they were pretty nice (of course i get mistaken for being hispanic all the time). but i really could care less if they are living here. they say that mexican's will do most jobs that american's won't. i think its true.
its hard for many of us to fathom the living conditions that mexican's or anyone from other countries had to live in, so i can see why they would want to live in the U.S. i just don't agree that they should come in illegally.
but not all mexican immigrants are all out selling drugs, and doing what people classify for most of them to do. they are just as hard working as any other race.
its a shame that in 2007, such blatant racism still exists. i guess people from other areas bring their close-minded ideals and try to spread them among the others that work and pray where they are, and realizing that "oh, you don't think the same way as me."
i will tell you this, i will not miss the humidity. i am sitting at my computer and sweating....its ridiculous. it is 92, feels like 94 here in cleveland ohio and 40% humidity the dewpoint is 65 degrees ick!!!!!

I had my car washed by American teenagers working at the car wash in NC. I've never seen that in AZ since about 1992. Every fast food place I have been to in NC or SC I've seen the Americans doing the jobs the Americans won't do in Phoenix.
I think you will like Phoenix though, there's not too many places I would want to live in this country but Phoenix was good to me while the going was good there.

What is the cost of a car wash in NC though?
My girlfriend tells me that in FL car washes start at $30+ for a basic wash, whereas in Phoenix you can get a car wash for $12.

I have lived here for six years now(medical reasons) and I plan to move next year. I have lived in four other states, all have there good and bad points. It is just to expensive to live here ( when just the sewer bill is $47.00 a month).
Why should an employer hire my teenage daughter when he can hire an illegal and keep the taxes for himself ,pay them lower than minimum wadge or pay them under the table. By the way there is a difference between legal Mexican immigrants who come to this country, who pay there taxes work hard and make a better life for there families and illegal Mexican immigrants. I know there are problems and that it can take years to get here the legal way, but for what they pay the coyotes to get them over the border it's no cheaper.

You won't see much of it in Michigan either. You'll see TONS of middle easterners . . . (lots of illegals there)
I will be REALLY happy when I can finally move to Zona. HATE, HATE, HATE snow and cold. Maybe you can go outside in the winter, but I don't. As soon as it drops below 40, I'm back indoors! I have no desire to ski, sled, skate or anything else in the snow and cold. BRRRRRR!!! Give me 115 degrees anyday!!!

I don't think the jobs your teenage daughter are interested in are the same jobs as illegal immigrants are performing.
On the other hand, when I first bought my house there was a local boy that did everyone's lawns. He even had a couple friends who worked for him. He was 14 and mentioned one day he had $45K in the bank! Now he was competition...

Maybe I can go outside in the Winter What the hell do you think I moved to Arizona from NY for? I won't ever live anywhere with snow ever again. God willing.
Michigan? I'd rather shoot myself than live in a place like that. You are barking up the wrong tree. Tell that to someone else.

I know some teens that wouldn't mind working at McDonalds. I worked in an office in Ahwatukee and they were working there, doing the jobs we were doing except they weren't speaking English doing them. They were doing half of the job we were doing and getting paid the full amount.
