Default Crime Safety in the Phoenix Area Horses Equestrian

Wonder if anyone local to the Phoenix area could offer some advice on the general safety and crime rate of the Phoenix area? We will be moving to Phoenix soon, and trying to find the best area to live. We have horses, so will most likely live on the outskirts, more in the country. What areas should we be looking? Are there any issues with theft farther out from the city, or anyone messing with your livestock? Thanks!

There was an article in the newspaper a while back about perverts sneaking into horse stalls for sex. They choke the horse enough to knock it out.

I used to work with some folks in this group, maybe their forum would be a good place to check.

Consider the Cave Creek/Desert Hills/New River areas. Many horse properties and lots of riding on state land and in the Tonto National Forest. Ride right out your backyard. Convenient and close to shopping, dining and 1-17. Very affordable right now.

If you can afford a little higher price range, Rio Verde Foothills (N. Scottsdale) is a wonderful area. Again excellent access to trails. This is where many high end horse farms are located. It is a little more rural, more unpaved roadways, with stores and conveniences a little further away, but a beautiful area with awesome views.

If you want to live in a bit more suburban area, you could also consider some south Tempe neighborhoods that have horse privileges. A couple have horse arenas and trails, but are in the higher price ranges.

There's also some areas of Gilbert that would work. There's some nice rural enclaves in south Phoenix, around 36th and St Catherine, as I recall, that are interesting. I don't know what the crime stats in that immediate area are, but I know some people who lived there with horses for many years before being transferred to Texas, and loved it.
